Ipswich Town fans paid their respects to two staunch supporters with emotional standing ovations at a packed out Portman Road for the QPR game on Friday night.

The first round of applause was held on 22 minutes for Ben Moore, who died on Thursday aged 22, having been diagnosed with acute myeloid leukaemia in November 2022.

The second ovation by the 29,100 crowd was on 65 minutes for former Port of Felixstowe worker Peter Taylor, who died on December 4 aged 65 after developing mesothelioma, a type of cancer that mainly affects the lungs, but also other organs.

The timing of the applause reflected the years they had lived, while photos of both men were beamed on a big screen in the corner between the Sir Alf Ramsey Stand and Cobbold Stand.

Fans in the Blue Action section of the Cobbold Stand also unfurled a banner bearing Mr Taylor's name.

Prior to the game, Mr Taylor's daughter Brooke spoke about how 'honoured' her father would have been at the tribute.

She said: "I think my dad would have been honoured, he followed ITFC up or down since his childhood and he’d have absolutely loved to be honoured this way."

Earlier this month, she paid tribute to the 'modest, hard-working man' who was a 'doting father'.

She said: "My dad was a fighter, he put up one hell of a fight for the last four years of his life.

"I would describe him as hardworking, honest, an old school man with morals you don’t see much anymore, he was so funny and made jokes at inappropriate times.

"He loved his family more than anything, every gift he got us was so thoughtful and he always made us feel incredibly loved and cherished."

The start of the second half to the game - which ended 0-0 - was delayed due to a medical emergency in the lower half of the Sir Alf Ramsey stand.

Stewards held a large tarpaulin sheet over the spectator while paramedics were administering treatment.

Once the supporter had been taken away for further treatment, players returned to the pitch for a six minute warm up before the start of the second half.
