A tiny otter pup had a narrow escape after being found struggling in a Suffolk sewage works.
The pup was pulled from a storm tank at the sewage works in Stonham Aspal.
RSPCA animal collection officer (ACO) Naemi Kilbery said: “Thankfully, one of the workers spotted him and pulled him free before he drowned but there was no sign of his mum anywhere.”
Despite being rescued, ACO Kilbey was concerned that the otter might not make it.
“I honestly thought he was going to die on route to our wildlife centre in Norfolk,” she said. “He was totally flat when I picked him up and seemed really weak and poorly.”
He was quickly taken to the RSPCA’s East Winch Wildlife Centre in Norfolk and will now be looked after by staff at the centre before being released next year.
Centre manager Alison Charles said “It’s really positive that he’s eating but he’s not out of the woods yet and he has a long way to go.”
