Ninety people from all over the country travelled to Barrow for the inaugural Big BRO Race, raising more than £4,000 for Breast Cancer Now.
Organised by Suffolk branch volunteer Laura Hudson, the race involved a 22km bike ride, followed by a 4km run – with a couple of hills thrown in – and then a final kilometre along an obstacle course with 25 challenges along the way.
“It went really well,” said Laura. “We’re really pleased. We had 90 participants and we had people travelling from Kent and Birmingham to take part. I don’t know what I was expecting but I wasn’t expecting it to be quite so far reaching. It was just fantastic.”
Three waves of 30 people set off along the course, which was based on the idea of a triathlon.
The Rosewood Pavilion, in Cambridgeshire, paid for the event which meant all the entry fees could go towards the charity.
“It’s the first one but it will now be an annual event,” said Laura. “With the feedback this year it will be back next year and hopefully we can take everything from today and make it bigger and better.”
