Kate Couch and Allie Smith have been running the ‘cafe sospeso’ or ‘suspended coffee’ idea popular in Italy, where people donate the price of a coffee to Macmillan, at Ms Couch’s Xpresso mobile coffee in the car park at Staples.

The pair then braved the shave on Friday to raise more than four-times their initial target of £500.

Ms Couch, or ‘Coffee Kate’ as she is known, said: “We are just completely overwhelmed by people’s generosity. I hear stories of people doing it all over the country, and it has really caught people’s attention.”

To donate, visit Kate’s brave the shave page or Allison’s.
