A TRAIN on the mainline to London was delayed at a station in Essex this evening after a passenger was found dead in a carriage.

Ambulance crews were called to Manningtree station after somebody travelling on the train noticed another passenger had passed away.

The Peterborough to London Liverpool Street train arrived at the station just after 7.30pm and was terminated a short time later.

Passengers were transferred onto another service to resume their journey to the capital.

The East of England Ambulance service was unavailable for comment but it is understood the deceased's next-of-kin are being traced.

Commuters are also facing delays of up to an hour between Colchester and Clacton-on-Sea because of signalling problems in the Alresford area.

And further delays between London Liverpool Street and Shenfield are resulting in waiting times of around 40 minutes for passengers after overhead wire problems in the Manor Park area affected the line.
