An 85-year-old man who was fighting for his life following a crash with a car has died.

The accident involving the pedestrian and a Ford Fiesta happened in Broomfield Road, Chelmsford, at about 5.15pm yesterday, near the junction with Hospital Approach.

The man, from Chelmsford, was taken to Broomfield Hospital in a life-threatening condition, but he has since passed away.

The road was closed and diversions were in place.
