AN ELDERLY driver had to be cut free from his car after he reversed into the side of a house.

The 86-year-old man was in Grampian Grove, Chelmsford when he lost control of his red Ford Mondeo just before 7pm last night.

The pensioner, who lived locally, was left trapped in his car and firefighters from Chelmsford and Colchester worked to free him using a specialist winch system.

The man was left in the care of the ambulance service although it is understood he escaped without any injuries.

An Essex Police spokeswoman said the man had been the only person in the car, confirming it had gone backwards into the house.
