RED faced US military bosses have launched a Suffolk-wide hunt for a piece of equipment which they said had fallen off one of their planes today.

A police spokesman read out a statement on behalf of the US Airforce at Mildenhall which said that an MC130H aircraft, assigned to the 350 2nd Special Operations Group, dropped a chaff module on its flight.

The aircraft was flying along a course which had taken it along the greater part of the UK coastal perimeter.

The US military put out a warning for the public to be careful if they came across the piece of equipment and to report it as soon as possible.

“Officials urge anyone finding objects with government markings to please report the find to their local constabulary.

“For safety reasons do not handle the chaff module or attempt to move it. Do not use any electrical transmitting devices, such as mobile phones, within 35ft or 10metres of the item.”

It is the second similar incident in the county to occur since last summer when a panel from a passenger aircraft landed on a house in Stratford St Andrew, near Saxmundham.
