A MAJOR police hunt was under way tonight after a six year old girl was bundled into a car and abducted.

Officers said Summer Haipule, described as very small for her age, went missing after going to visit a friend near her home in Brighton.

After 20 minutes, when she had failed to arrive, her panicked mother called police.

"Shortly after Summer was reported missing, police received information that she had been seen being dragged into a car," Sussex Police said in a statement.

Dozens of officers from across the county have been drafted in to search for Summer who is white, with olive/tanned skin, long, dark, straight hair past her waist and brown eyes.

Police said Summer, from Bolney Road, Moulscombe, was reported missing at 7.26pm.

She has never gone missing before and her disappearance was described as "totally out of character'.

She has two top teeth missing and was wearing a cerise pink sleeveless dress down to the knee, with green, pink and red flowers on it.

She was wearing red/tan sandals with velcro straps and a pink vest under her dress.

Police said it was believed two men were in the vehicle into which she was dragged.

The car was described as a light blue or turquoise four door old style Ford Escort.

The vehicle had dirty windows and a cracked windscreen in the pattern of a spider web. There was rust on the front off side wheel arch and a small surfboard sticker on the rear off side.

The vehicle had no front number plate but the letter 'P' was on the rear number plate possibly in the middle.

The driver of the vehicle was white with brown greasy hair to his chin, with blond streaks, possibly highlights.

He was wearing a white thigh length casual jacket with dirty jeans rolled up at the bottom. He had stubble and was approximately 30 years of age. There was no description of the other man.

An incident room was set up at Brighton Police Station.

A police spokesman said: "Everything is being done to find Summer.

"At this time it is believed she has been abducted and therefore her life could be at risk.

"This case fits all the criteria of a Child Rescue Alert and is being used as a way of finding Summer as quickly as possible.

"Whilst the area is being flooded with police officers, we need the help of the public.

"If anyone has seen anything suspicious, or thinks they may have seen this little girl, then please phone police immediately on 999.

"We want to get Summer back with her family, safely, as soon as possible.'
