A BRAZEN con artist who pretended to be from a fire extinguisher firm swiped a purse from an office while staging a bogus a safety check.

Suffolk police are urging businesses to be vigilant following the burglary in Bury St Edmunds last week.

The man called at an office in Guildhall Street, Bury, at 10.45am, on Friday, claiming to be from a fire extinguisher company. He asked to inspect the extinguishers and was allowed to walk around the office without supervision but after he had left a purse was found to have been stolen.

The man is described as white, of slim build, between 5ft 6in and 5ft 8in tall, with short dark hair which was greying around the sides. He was wearing a white polo shirt with a blue emblem on the front, and dark trousers.
