POLICE are investigating a possible stabbing today after a teenager was assaulted in Ipswich town centre.

The man was taken to Ipswich Hospital after paramedics were called to an address in Shotley at about 2.10am today.

The 19-year-old was conscious and breathing but it is thought he had suffered stab wounds to his lower back.

A spokeswoman for Suffolk police said it was not clear when or where the attack had taken place but added that officers were in Ipswich town centre today investigating the incident.

Part of the Buttermarket shopping centre has been cordoned off by police while officers are on scene.
