Extra police patrols are being rolled out in Colchester on Friday and Saturday night after a woman was sexually assaulted in the town.
Detectives are continuing to urge witnesses and anyone with information to get in touch urgently after the victim, in her 20s, was attacked in Layer Road.
She was taken to hospital with minor injuries at around 3.30am yesterday.
Detective Inspector Tony Benjamin said: “This type of incident is very rare and we have safeguarded the woman who is being supported by specially trained officers.
“There will be an increased visibility of patrols in the wider area on Friday and Saturday nights to ensure the safety of those walking through the town centre.”
An investigation is ongoing and no arrests have been made so far, police said.
