ENERGY providers have apologised to frustrated customers who were left without power overnight.

Power supplies in Benhall, Saxmundham, were disrupted by a fault on an overhead electricity line, at 1.40pm yesterday .

Engineers restored power to 220 customers just after 4pm and continued to work through the afternoon and into the night to locate the fault.

Work was suspended as it became dark, for safety reasons, meaning some residents were still without power.

A spokeswoman for EDF Energy said:

“EDF Energy Networks would like to apologise to 76 customers in the Benhall area for the inconvenience caused by an interruption to their power supplies overnight.

We appreciate how difficult it can be to be without electricity, especially in cold weather, and would like to assure customers that our engineers are working safely to restore the remaining supplies as quickly as possible.”

Engineers are now back in the area with temporary generators on their way to restore supplies.

Karl Felton, owner of the Railway Farm Shop, Benhall, said:

“Everyone has had their power out. We were lucky to be saved by a generator we bought six months ago but the rest of the village has suffered badly.”

The power cuts in Benhall come after families in Stowmarket were plagued by a week of energy failures.

EDF have apologised for those power interruptions and have promised to contact customers who may be eligible for compensation.
