POLICE are trying to trace a driver who collided with a pregnant woman on a pedestrian crossing in Colchester and then left without giving her name.
The accident happened on Harwich Road in Parson's Heath on Sunday afternoon as the pedestrian, who was 26 weeks' pregnant, was on the crossing.
Essex Police said the car was a small blue one, possibly a Peugeot, and the driver was white, aged in her forties, with red hair and glasses.
She stopped briefly after the collision but did not give any details.
The pregnant woman was later taken to hospital by her family with pains in her side and police were due to get an update on her condition later today.
They appealed for anyone who saw the accident or who knew who the woman was to call Stanway Road Policing Unit on 01206 762512 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
