POLICE have launched a manhunt for a "violent" robber who has gone on the run from a Suffolk jail.
Brian Lloyd, 42, who is serving a life sentence, walked out of Hollesley Bay Prison, near Woodbridge, on Tuesday.
More than 80 prisoners, including murderers, have absconded from the prison's open unit in the last five years.
Police described Lloyd, who was discovered missing at 11.20pm, as violent and warned the public not to approach him.
He is described as 5ft 9ins tall, of small build with ginger hair, blue eyes, a bullet-shaped face and pale complexion. He has "mother" tattooed on his left arm.
Lloyd has connections in Reading, Liverpool and Oxford.
A spokesman for Suffolk police added: "Lloyd is known to be violent and police are advising anyone spotting him not to approach him but to alert them immediately."
