A CONVICTED killer has today pleaded guilty to the manslaughter of former Colchester schoolgirl Rachel Nickell.

Broadmoor patient Robert Napper, 42, admitted the horrific attack when he appeared at the Old Bailey.

Ex-model Ms Nickell, 23, who grew up in Great Totham, near Maldon, was stabbed 49 times and sexually assaulted whilst walking on Wimbledon Common with her two-year-old son, Alex, in 1992.

The youngster was left clinging to her body after the brutal attack.

Mr Justice Griffiths Williams told Napper he would be held in Broadmoor top security hospital indefinitely.

He said: “You are on any view a very dangerous man.”

Ms Nickell studied at Colchester County High School for Girls before continuing her education at Colchester Institute.
