A 24-year-old airman has been accused of seriously assaulting a man and attacking his son.

James Sinclair was charged with causing grievous bodily harm to Thomas Cleary and assaulting Patrick Cleary.

Sinclair, of 27 Squadron, based at RAF Honington, appeared before magistrates in Ipswich on Monday.

Prosecutor David Bryant said police were called by the Getaway Cars cab firm at 2.30am on November 24 to Tayfen Road, where Thomas Cleary was “out cold” from a single punch, allegedly thrown by Sinclair.

He was taken to hospital and transferred to Addenbrooke’s after a scan found serious bleeding on the brain and a fractured skull.

“He will have a lasting disability, but the severity cannot yet be determined” said Mr Bryant, who applied for the case to be sent to crown court for a plea hearing on March 11.

Sinclair, represented in court by James Yardy, was released on conditional bail.
