A RELATIVE of a six-year-old boy who died after an accident in a Suffolk river has this afternoon paid tribute to the youngster - and questioned how the tragedy was allowed to happen.
Trudi Staples, the second cousin of the boy, posted a message on this website after last night's tragedy in an isolated spot of the River Stour near Quay Lane in Sudbury.
It has emerged today that the boy, a member of the 1st Acton and Waldingfield Scout Group, was on a Beaver activity trip when the accident happened.
Trudi wrote: “He was a gorgeous little boy and the world will be a much emptier place without him.
“I am struggling to come to terms with how this was allowed to happen on an organised trip. I often take school children out and am fully aware of all the procedures you put into place to safeguard our children.
“RIP little angel.”
