HIGH-value watches have been stolen during a daylight raid in west Suffolk.

Police were called to Abbeygate Street, in Bury St Edmunds, after a man in his 30s went into a store and made off on a mountain bike with three watches on Saturday afternoon.

The drama continued out in the street, when a driver who saw the robber trying to get away used his blue car in a bid to stop him. But the thief got away.

A police spokeswoman said officers were called to the luxury jewellers at 4.35pm.

She said the robber was a white man, about 5ft 8in to 5ft 10in tall, in his 30s and wore dark clothing and possibly a light coloured baseball cap.

Police are now appealing to the public for information which might help them catch the robber.

The spokeswoman said the force particularly wanted to speak with the driver of a small blue car who apparently tried to prevent the robber getting away by pulling across in the way of the fleeing rider.

Police also want to speak with anybody who finds discarded clothing or an abandoned mountain bike in the area.

Anybody with information should contact Det Sgt Alex Matthews on 01473 613500.
