A MAJOR search operation at Felixstowe has been called off after police found a man who they had feared had disappeared into the sea.
The search swung into action at about 3.10pm after ambulance officers called police to the beach opposite the Felixstowe Ferry golf club following reports a 38-year-old was threatening to throw himself into the sea.
When they couldn't find the man the police helicopter was dispatched to the area and the coastguard and inshore lifeboat were also brought in to assist with the search in the area of the sandbar near Felixstowe Ferry.
The teams searched for about an hour before an officer reported finding a man on the Prom matching the description of the 38-year-old.
After police talked to the man and were satisfied he was the man they were looking for the air and sea search was called off.
