Southwold: Parents of Ollie Towler-Jones launch fundraising drive in his honour in wake of teenager’s death at Latitude Festival

More than £2,000 has been raised in memory of a teenager who died after complaining of feeling unwell at Latitude Festival.

The parents of Ollie Towler-Jones, of Norwich, are raising funds for the East Anglian Air Ambulance and laucnhed an online fundraising pageon Friday, and so far the total stands at more than £2,200 and climbing.

More than 120 people have donated so far, in hour of 18-year-old Ollie, whopassed away at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital on July 19.

Ollie had been camping with friends at Latitude when he started to complain of feeling unwell, hours before Damon Albarn’s performance at Henham Park.

He was rushed to hospital, but passed away later that night as a result of a suspected blood infection.

His family believe that he picked up a blood infection while on the holiday of a lifetime with friends in Malia, in Crete, Greece, which he returned home from on July 9.

His parents Jo Towler and Marc Jones have praised air ambulance staff, who took their son to hospital, for doing all they could for him.

Writing on their fundrasing page, his parents explained that the air ambulance received no public funding.

“They looked after Ollie fantastically and we feel very strongly that instead of flowers we would like to donate to this amazing organisation,” they said. “Thank you for all your kind words and messages xxx.”

Ollie was a former Avenue Junior School and City of Norwich School (CNS) student and had been halfway through a two-year IT apprenticeship at Norwich software development company Purple Tuesday.

His tragic death has affected many people, with his former teachers at CNS paying tribute to “a great role model for other students”.
