Darcy Ward and Kozza Smith suffered falls and exclusions in the opening two heats which helped Newport to a pair of 5-1s. But a superb gate in heat three saw Emiliano Sanchez and Chris Schramm produce a 5-1 of their own, setting up a thrilling meeting as Stars stayed close without getting their noses in front until four heats from the end.
