A 40-year-old man from Great Cornard near Sudbury had been handed a four-month suspended prison sentence for impersonating a police officer and for the production of cannabis.

Stewart Devere Hunt, of Carson’s Drive, was arrested after officers from Suffolk police executed a warrant under the Misuse of Drugs Act at a property on Monday, January 7.

During the police raid, a quantity of cannabis plants were found in the garage along with quantities of herbal cannabis inside the property.

Devere Hunt was later arrested and taken to Bury St Edmunds Police Investigation Centre for questioning.

He was later charged with producing cannabis and one count of impersonating a police officer.

It followed an incident on November 13, 2018, where a phone call was made by Devere Hunt to his neighbour’s work posing as a police officer, stating a work van had been crashed.

He appeared before Ipswich Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, January 9, and was given a suspended sentence of four months, suspended for 12 months.
