RESCUERS tonight went to the aid of a man who had been rowing for four hours off the Essex coast after his dinghy engine lost power.
Thames Coastguard received a call from the small inflatable at around 10.45pm but were unable to regain contact and sent out the West Mersea lifeboat to investigate.
Shortly afterwards a mayday call came in from the dinghy and the lifeboat crew were able to reach the broken down boat just of Mersea Stone.
The man and his vessel were both taken safely into Brightlingsea.
