A 43-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a violent attack which prompted police to seal off parts of Bury St Edmunds.

Scenes of crime officers have this morning taped off a section of busy Springfield Road in the town following the incident between 7pm and 9.30pm last night.

A 40-year-old local man is being treated at West Suffolk Hospital, Bury, for a head injury and doctors described his condition as stable.

The 43-year-old man in custody, who comes from Botesdale, near Bury, is expected to face police questioning on suspicion of grievous bodily harm later this morning.
