STAFF at the East Anglian Daily Times and Ipswich Star are supporting BBC Radio Suffolk in their ‘Comedy Ties’ appeal to help raise money for Red Nose Day.
From office workers to shop assistants, people across Suffolk are being urged to rummage through their wardrobes and don a comedy tie for one day only for Comic Relief on Friday, March 15.
BBC Radio Suffolk presenter Mark Murphy, who came up with the fundraising idea, said he hoped a lot of people would take part and share their photos and stories of the day.
He said: “I wanted to do something for Comic Relief that would be quite easy and fun to do – and thought wearing comedy ties would be a good idea!
“It’s a really simple way of raising money for a great cause and I hope a lot of people get involved.
“Office workers can pay £1 or £2 for the privilege of wearing a comedy tie, and perhaps those who don’t can be ‘fined’ the same amount and pay into the collection.
“People working in shops can have donation buckets and everyone can chip in – wouldn’t it be great to think that everyone in Suffolk on the same day was wearing a comedy tie!”
Money raised for Red Nose Day is asked to be donated through the normal channels.
