Cash-strapped local authorities are having to find new ways of raising revenue – but Suffolk County Council isn’t thinking of sending chairman Guy McGregor round in person to boost its coffers!
But Mr McGregor is preparing to be locked up in an attempt to raise “bail” for the Ormiston Children and Families’ Trust.
He, and other local VIPs including Suffolk Police and Crime Commissioner Tim Passmore, will be locked up at the Crown Court on Tuesday and will only be released once the bail has been raised.
His “crime” is having the name McGregor – that clan was so unruly that the name was banned from 1603 to 1774. Today, of course, the name is the height of respectability – especially in Suffolk!
