Suffolk Highways has received a national award for providing “real and tangible benefits to the community it serves”.
Last night’s Highways Awards 2018 saw the organisation recognised in the “Partnership” category, while Georgie Power was named “Apprentice of the Year”.
Mary Evans, who is responsible for highways at Suffolk County Council, offered a “huge congratulations” to the team.
“I was thrilled last night to hear that Georgie and the Highways team were runaway winners at the awards ceremony,” she said.
Suffolk County Council and Kier formed the private-public partnership in 2013 in a bid to provide more efficient and affordable services. The partnership has come under fire previously amid complaints over the rate at which works were carried out.
However, a “transformation programme” was launched in 2016 to allow for faster decision making and quicker completion of work.
In a statement about the award presented last night, judges said: “This partnership highlighted a fantastic working relationship that has had real tangible benefits to the community it serves.”
Suffolk Highways beat two other finalists for the partnership award – Amey, Scottish Borders Council, NHS Borders and Transport Scotland and Southampton City Council, Balfour Beatty Living Places.
The awards, which included Kier among its sponsors, were presented in The Royal Lancaster in London.
