Here is our monthly look back at some of the criminals jailed in Suffolk and north Essex courts in July.

A drug dealer who was found with uncut heroin and crack cocaine was jailed for three-and-a-half years. Amara Conteh, 26, of Homerton Road in Hackney in East London, was tackled by police officers after they became suspicious of his car and he tried to flee. The officers found Conteh with two mobile phones, a package in his hand containing almost three grams of heroin and close to six grams of crack cocaine in his sock.

A gun enthusiast was jailed for five years after being found with a prohibited rifled gun. Mark Lufkin, 43, of The Street, Langham, was found with the weapon when officers attended his home on an unrelated matter. Lurkin claimed he had bought the Sturm Ruger rifle at a car boot sale and that it was deactivated, but it was later found to be working. Legally held ammunition was also discovered.

An ex-UKIP councillor was jailed for life after murdering his wife. Stephen Searle, 64, of Brickfields, Stowmarket, was found guilty of killing his wife after she discovered he had been having an affair with their daughter-in-law. The former Royal Marine Searle made a call to Suffolk Police on December 30 last year and told them the he had suffocated his wife.

An Ipswich man who stabbed two men was jailed for nine years. Jewel Miah, 22, of Moore Road, Ipswich, attacked two men with a knife late at night outside Unit 17 nightclub in Ipswich. One of the victims suffered a collapsed lung, while the other had two wounds to the left side of his back and was forced to delay becoming a Royal Marine for a year.

A rapist who carried out an awful and appalling attack was jailed for 12 years. Marian Pavel, 28, of Cavendish Way, Sudbury, followed his teenage victim in the early hours of the morning before grabbing, sexually assaulting and raping her. The victim believed she was going to die.

A dangerous burglar who burned his victim with hot water and tied them up was jailed for six years and four months. Jermain Davis, 32, of Whalebone Lane North, Romford, pleaded guilty to aggravated burglary at an address in Essex. Investigating officer detective constable, Matt Collins, said: “Jermain Davis is a dangerous man and I am pleased he is now behind bars.”

A London man who kidnapped an Ipswich man was jailed for 15 years. Abubakar Sheikh, 33, of London, was found guilty of conspiracy to kidnap, false imprisonment and causing grievous bodily harm. The victim was kidnapped, put in a car with three other men and driven to a flat in London. The victim was then blindfolded and repeatedly punched and kicked in the face and body. His hands and fingers were hit with a hammer, and an irritant poured in his eye.

A woman who attempted to murder her lodger was jailed for nine and a half years. Agnieszka Kusmierz, 33, of Kimms Belt, Thetford, stabbed her victim in the neck and heart in a drunken row. Before she plunged the knife into her lodger’s heart she said “Now I will kill you.”

A Bury St Edmunds man who repeatedly punched a female doctor in the face was jailed for one year and eight months. Steven Cook, 41, of Devon Close, Bury, attacked Dr Victoria Hunter after yelling “you killed my dad” while she was in a consultation with another patient. The doctor fell to the ground and curled into a ball while Cook continued to punch her.

A woman who had cocaine in her system when she killed two in a road crash was jailed for eight years. Sadie Fuller, 33, of Exning Road, Newmarket, was driving under the influence of drugs when she took the lives of Marius Gioacas and Paul Gale in a fatal crash. Fuller was driving over 60mph in a 40mph zone, was on the wrong side of the road and without a license or insurance.

Three men who murdered a Suffolk father-of-five were jailed for a total of 58 years. Tecwyn Parker, 48, of Downside Close, Ipswich, Daniel Kaganda, 24, of north London, and Jason Ruby, 45, of no fixed abode in Ipswich were all given life sentences. The group were found guilty of murdering Dean Stansby, the father was stabbed after he bought drugs from Parker and attacked by the trio.
