Visitors to next week’s Suffolk Show will be able to take a step back in time when a group of floristry students descend on Trinity Park dressed in attire from the First World War era.

The aim of the Easton and Otley College students is to support the Royal British Legion in their commemoration of the 100th anniversary of the conflict.

The group will also be creating floral designs from the era and collecting funds on behalf of the cause on both days of the agricultural showpiece.

To highlight the campaign, students from the floristry department and the Prince’s Trust visited Chuckles, in Ipswich, to try on clothes from the era, and the shop will be donating some items to help the students look the part.

Floristry lecturer, Amanda Hughes, said: “We wanted to do something to mark this important anniversary and we are looking forward to this year’s show.

“It’s always a great showcase for the college as a whole and the department that I work for.”

Sandra Bromley for the Royal British Legion, added: “We will be out in force at this year’s show, promoting the great work that we do.

“Naturally we are always delighted when we receive backing from local organisations and we would like to thank Easton and Otley College for thinking of us.”

New owner of Chuckles, Sarah Fitch, said: “The British Royal Legion is an incredibly important cause so it was an honour to be able to support this.”

This year’s Suffolk Show has been boosted by news that Prince Harry will be making an appearance on the Thursday. In total, organisers of the event expect 90,000 people to attend over the two days.

As well as helping the legion, the college’s students will also be at other areas of the showground raising money for other charities, including the Guide Dogs and Suffolk Accident Rescue Service.
