Suffolk man charged with terror offence

A SUFFOLK man is due to appear before magistrates in London this morning after being charged under the Terrorism Act.Thirty-nine-year-old French national Jacques Karim Abi-Ayad , from Ipswich, was charged last night , said a spokeswoman for the Metropolitan Police.

Thirty-nine-year-old French national Jacques Karim Abi-Ayad , from Ipswich, was charged last night , said a spokeswoman for the Metropolitan Police.

He had been questioned by anti-terrorist police since his arrest a week ago, and was charged with the collection of information under Section 58 (b)1 of the Terrorism Act 2000.

The Scotland Yard spokeswoman said he would appear before Belmarsh Magistrates Court this morning . No further information about the allegations or exactly where Abi-Ayad lived in Ipswich was available,

Abi-Ayad was originally arrested in the Ipswich area by Suffolk police on April 2, along with a 38-year old man. They were subsequently arrested by anti-terror police at around 6pm on April 3.

The 38-year old man, also from Ipswich, has now been de-arrested under the Terrorism Act and re-arrested under the Police and Criminal Evidence Act in connection with false documentation.

He has not yet been named, but was bailed to reappear before a central London police station in July.
