A school caretaker is among six people from Suffolk arrested as part of a national child porn inquiry.

The caretaker, who has now been suspended from his post, was detained in a National Crime Agency led operation which involved police forces across East Anglia and led to a total of 24 arrests.

The school worker is currently on police bail until next year after being questioned by police.

Suffolk Constabulary and the county council have declined to say where the suspect lives or works at this stage.

However, Suffolk County Council confirmed a school employee had been stood down from his post until the outcome of the investigation.

It is understood he is the only suspect relating to the Suffolk arrests who was in a position of trust.

Among the men currently under arrest are a man from the Ipswich area, a man from south Suffolk, and a man from central Suffolk.

Two men from the north of the county and a man from west Suffolk were also taken into custody.

All six suspects are on bail pending further enquiries. They must return to police investigation centres at various dates during January, February, and March.

A spokesman for the county council said: “One member of staff at a school has been suspended.”

Raids were carried out across the eastern region and involved Bedfordshire, Norfolk, Hertfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Suffolk constabularies.

The National Crime Agency said 29 warrants were conducted at premises across the five counties.

Those arrested are suspected of being involved in the distribution of indecent images of children.

However, it is understood they are not alleged to be part of an organised network working as a ring.

A doctor is said to be one of the other suspects arrested in another part of East Anglia during the raids between October 18 and 24.

Six people were arrested in Norfolk, with another interviewed under caution. They include a man in his 20s, a man in his 30s, a man in his 40s, a man in his 50s and two men and one woman in their 60s from the Breckland, Norwich and Great Yarmouth areas.

One of the men and the woman will have no further police action taken against them.

Four others suspects were detained in Cambridgeshire.

Speaking about the operation as a whole a spokeswoman from the National Crime Agency (NCA) said: “Multiple people in positions of trust, as well as two registered sex offenders, were arrested. The NCA provided 30 officers to assist forces with searches and forensically examining technology that was seized.”
