My sincere thanks to all of you who have been in touch to congratulate me on becoming the proud grandparent of George, aka Bud, who is undoubtedly a future Nobel Prize winner.

I have seen his eyes open and can confirm they are deepest blue. He is putting on weight at an astonishing rate and is already out of “newborns” and into age 3-6 months.

Currently his time is mostly taken up with exploring the correct functioning of his digestive system, waking and sleeping. It is, I can report, impressive.

Having undertaken to change his nappy, I found the contact of the cold baby wipe on his warm flesh set off a sequence of reactions that – to cut a bewilderingly long story short – required a second nappy change before the first had quite been completed. Throughout this process, Bud retained an expression of beatific repose.

He has worn the Batman onesie we gave him and we are now hoping to add a range of superhero outfits to his wardrobe. I don’t think I need to tell you what Bud’s superpower is...
