Tattersalls, in Newmarket, hailed as Europe’s leading bloodstock auctioneer, is to be the unique venue for this year’s West Suffolk Sports Awards which are to be held on Thursday, September 27.
The annual event celebrates the area’s sporting community including sports men and women, volunteers, coaches, mums and dads, teachers and clubs.
Nominations for the awards, which are delivered by Abbeycroft Leisure on behalf of St Edmundsbury and Forest Heath councils, are now open online with 12 categories available including Sports Personality, Unsung Hero, Club of the Year, Lifetime Achievement and School of the Year award.
Abbeycroft Leisure’s chief executive officer Warren Smyth, said: “After the success of last year’s awards, held in St Edmundsbury Cathedral, we wanted another unique venue in which to showcase West Suffolk’s sporting talent, and so we’re thrilled to be partnering with Tattersalls this year.”
Tess Youngs, Event Manager at Tattersalls, said: “Tattersalls is delighted to host the Sports Awards to recognise the great achievements of local individuals and groups. West Suffolk has great sporting communities, and all will be welcomed to the unique Sale Ring at Tattersalls Newmarket to celebrate a successful year.”
Abbeycroft Leisure also announced Greene King, as headline sponsor again this year, and will be working with local companies to sponsor individual awards.

And councillors Andy Drummond and Joanna Rayner, Cabinet members for Leisure and Culture at Forest Heath District Council and St Edmundsbury Borough Council, added: “As councils we invest in leisure amenities and sporting facilities and work with our partners to develop opportunities for everyone wanting to do more physical activity. With the media increasingly highlighting the benefits of being more active, and the risks of ignoring our health, we hope the stories told through these awards provide the inspiration for taking advantage of these facilities, support and motivation.”
