A TEENAGER has spoken of her shock after she had a close encounter with what she believed was a UFO hovering above her.

Charlotte Bevan, 18, Foxhall Road in Ipswich was picking her older sister up from Cineworld in the town on the night of Sunday, July 13, when she spotted a bright orange light hovering above her.

Miss Bevan's bizarre sighting is just one of hundreds reported across the country in the last few weeks.

Normally sceptical about the unexplained, she couldn't believe what she was seeing.

She said: “I looked up and saw a bright orange blob in the sky. It was moving from left to right and not making any sound. Then it drifted out of my sight behind the cinema.

“I went behind to see if I could spot it but by that time I was getting some funny looks anyway so I went home.”

That was the last Miss Bevan saw of the craft but it prompted her to do some paranormal investigation work upon her return home.

She said: “On the journey back I had shivers down my spine because I don't normally believe in that sort of thing.

“I had a look on the internet when I got home and found that there had been similar sightings earlier this year. They also described an orange object that didn't make any noise.

“It's really bizarre and I just can't explain it and when I told my work mates they immediately asked me if I had been drinking.”

Miss Bevan's sighting is one of many similar anomalies reported in recent weeks. On many occasions people have described seeing a bright orange light hovering in the sky and making no sound, in fact the number of suspected flying saucer sightings has hit a curious high this summer.

Malcolm Robinson, of Strange Phenomena Investigations, said: “Something very bizarre is happening in the skies over the UK.

“There have been an unusual number of sightings recently.

“Some experts believe it could be linked to global warming and craft from outer space are appearing because they are concerned about what man is doing to this planet.”

UFO sightings across the UK this summer:

-In March Suffolk was named a 'UFO Hotspot' by the former head of a Government project looking at UFOs, with 19 sightings since 1961.

- A cluster of soundless orange lights were spotted by several independent witnesses in Northamptonshire on Saturday evening.

- Last week a dog-walker in Norfolk was adamant the yellow beam of light he saw darting around above him was not of this world.

- Royal Navy aircraft engineer Michael Madden said he watched the UFO for three minutes before it “zoomed off” near Weston-super-Mare in Somerset.

- In Basingstoke, witnesses claimed to have seen a fleet of 12 orange objects in the night sky for half an hour.

- In the Vale of Glamorgan a police helicopter crew gave chase to another UFO after it appeared to veer at speed towards their aircraft.
