A 13-year-old boy was punched in the face and stamped on during a daylight assault in Bury St Edmunds.

The incident happened around 3.30pm on Tuesday in the vicinity of Hospital Road and police are appealing for witnesses to come forward.

The victim was walking alone when another teenage boy emerged from within a group of girls and called his name.

When the victim turned around, he was punched in the face by the boy, who then stamped on him after he fell to the ground.

The teenage victim sustained a significantly split lip, a cut and bruised gum, a minor cut to one elbow and minor graze to the back.

He has also suffered some memory loss following the fall to the floor where he hit his head.
