A teenage girl was left “very shaken” after being punched in the face during an attempted robbery in Newmarket at the weekend.

Police are appealing for witnesses following the incident on Sunday, August 12, around 10.50pm on Yellow Brick Road in the town.

Two men on bicycles stopped a 17-year-old girl walking alone along the road and demanded money.

The teenager refused and was then punched in the face by one of the men and forced to the floor where he continued to assault her.

A witness shouted and the two men ran off towards the town centre.

The 17-year-old victim sustained a black eye and bruising was very shaken by the incident.
