The 16-year-old, who lives in the town, was walking close to Cowdray Avenue through the car park of Megabowl between 10pm and 10.40pm yesterday when he was approached by three other teenage boys.

The victim ended up on the ground where he was kicked and punched and his navy blue Adidas bag was stolen.

The bag contained an almost empty bottle of Hugo Boss aftershave, an asthma inhaler and a train ticket.

The robbers also stole a black Creative MP3 player from his pocket.

The boy suffered from a sore head and a grazed knee after the attack.

The first suspect is described as white, with dark hair which was short in a French crop type cut, 5ft 7ins tall, of slim build, wearing a black jacket and a black scarf over his face.

He had the hood on his jacket up and wore black bottoms. He spoke with a local accent.

The second was described as tall and lanky, white, with ginger hair.

He had on a green Parker-style jacket with the hood up.

He also wore blue Adidas trousers with stripes down the side which stopped halfway down the leg.

The third suspect wore a dark jacket and was about the same height as the first.

A police spokeswoman said: “This was a nasty attack on a teenage boy who was just walking home.

“The area was quite busy at the time, so we would ask anyone who saw this incident to come forward.”
