A NUMBER of teenagers have been arrested following an assault outside an under 18s disco night.

Suffolk police confirmed yesterday that three youngsters were on bail and another had been reprimanded after the incident at Sizewell Sports and Social Club in King George's Avenue, Leiston.

A 15-year-old boy was taken to Ipswich Hospital with bruising and cuts following the assault, which happened around midnight on Saturday, January 16.

Last night a spokesman for Sizewell Sports and Social Club declined to comment but said the incident happened outside the building when the event - an under 18s disco - was at an end.

Both the police and the East of England Ambulance Service were called following reports of a fight.

A 17-year-old boy was reprimanded by officers after admitting assault by beating while another three teenagers were arrested on suspicion of assault.

The boys, aged 15, 16 and 17, have now been bailed to return to Lowestoft Police Station on Thursday, March 18.

A reprimanded can be handed out to anyone between the ages of 10 and 17 who commits a first minor offence.

Details will be passed to the local Youth Offending Service (YOS) and if under 16 a parent or guardian must be told.

To receive a reprimand the individual must have admitted the offence but it is not a criminal conviction and does not constitute a criminal record.

However the individual's details will be kept and if they commit another offence they will face a final warning or - if the incident is serious enough - will be charged and sent to court.

Suffolk Constabulary are asking anyone who might have information about the incident to contact PC Claire Dobson on 01473 613500.
