Another honour for Gipping Homes for the Bartlet convalescent home conversion in Felixstowe.
The developers of the former Bartlet convalescent home in Felixstowe have received a further award for their prestigious project.
Gipping Homes have created 36 apartments from the original Bartlet building and the adjacent former Bath Hotel, which was famously burnt down by the suffragettes in 1914, and have been awarded the Suffolk Coastal District Council Quality of Place Award - for the best conservation and conversion project.
Now in its seventh year, the award recognises works undertaken to preserve and enhance the character of buildings with local and historic interest, having particular regard to quality of conservation, design and sustainability.
For Gipping Homes this latest award follows receipt of the RIBA Suffolk Craftsmanship Award for Best Restoration earlier in the year and recognition in the Felixstowe in Flower competition when the development won two categories, Best Communal Garden and Most Sustainable Planting.
Gipping Homes director Peter Blemings said: “The Bartlet has been a five year project which has been a hugely rewarding challenge. I feel privileged to have led such a committed and skilled team which has shown such respect for the existing structure and exercised immense care when carrying out the extensive alterations. Felixstowe continues to change so dramatically and to have been part of this evolution is quite special.”
With just one property remaining available, Gipping Homes have now handed over the day to day management of the development to residents increasing even more the strong sense of community that already exists, he said.
Gipping Homes director Heather Blemings added: “Residents of The Bartlet development are a mix of both local and people who have moved into, or back into, Suffolk with most getting involved in the local community, and contributing to the ongoing success of Felixstowe and the wider area. The benefits recognised over 100 years ago by Dr John Bartlet are just as relevant today as they were then, health improvement and the lifestyle opportunities from living in this lovely seafront environment are proving hugely beneficial.”
