MID Norfolk Conservatives have chosen George Freeman as their candidate for the revised constituency at the next election.

Under boundary changes, Norfolk has gained an extra parliamentary constituency, Broadland, which will be contested by the current Tory MP for Mid Norfolk, Keith Simpson.

Mr Freeman, a member of the `A' list of candidates whom David Cameron and Central Office want to be MPs, is 39, married, and the father of two children.

He defeated James Tumbridge, Kit Malthouse, Priti Patel and Vicky Ford to win the nomination at a special meeting of the new Mid Norfolk Conservative Association held at Dereham Conservative Club.

It is expected that Witham Tories will select a candidate for the new Essex constituency - made up of chunks of the current Braintree, Colchester, and Essex North seats - at a meeting late in November. Like Mid Norfolk, Witham is expected to be a safe Conservative seat.

Ipswich and Waveney Tories will be selecting candidates for the two Labour-held seats within the next few months.
