Residents said six police cars, two dog units and a riot van were in attendance - and had blocked access to the road.
A spokesman for Essex Police said: “We were called with reports of an unauthorised traveller encampment at a site in Old London Road, Marks Tey at around 11.30am today.
“Officers attended and the encampment had moved off the site by 1.05pm.”
