Education is all about planting a seed but one west Suffolk primary school has taken that rather literally.
Children at Tollgate primary school in Bury St Edmunds had a tree planting day last week where children from all year groups worked in small groups to each plant a sapling.
The day started with an assembly introducing the trees followed by a discussion on the many benefits trees bring to our world.
A day of lessons then looked at tree life cycles and the things trees are used for.
Jo Quittenton, who leads the school’s outdoor learning programme, said: “They were amazed to discover that a harp came from bark.”
The children then wrote an account of the day, some poems and facts about the trees, before an art lesson looked at The Tree of Life by Gustav Klimt.
“The children were very inquisitive, engaged and a tremendous day was had by all,” Mrs Quittenton added.
