ESSEX Police have warned drivers to take care on the county's roads today after more than 20 accidents were caused by icy conditions.

Emergency services were called to a spate of minor accidents this morning particularly on country roads where sheet ice had formed, including an overturned vehicle on the road between Elmstead Market and Frating, near Colchester.

Firefighters also cut a man free who had become trapped in his crashed car in Millennium Way in Braintree.

An Essex Police spokeswoman urged drivers to take extra time on their journeys and to be aware of the “treacherous” conditions.
