TWO people were hurt after a fire broke out in a garage and spread to an adjoining house in Essex.

A man and a woman, both believed to be about 45 years old, required hospital treatment after the fire broke out in Furnlea, Colchester, yesterday afternoon.

Both had suffered smoke inhalation and the man suffered burns.

In all, four firecrews from Colchester, West Mersea and Nayland, Suffolk, were called to the scene at just after 4.30pm when they were faced with a deep seated fire which had started in the garage and spread to an adjoining detached house.

A specialist crew was also called in to shore up the garage which had been made unstable as a result of the blaze.
