One lane of the A14 has been closed for more than three hours after the road surface began to break-up in today’s intense heat.

The outside lane on the westbound carriageway was closed between J49, A1308 Stowmarket and J47, A1088 Woolpit earlier this afternoon.

A Suffolk Constabulary spokesman said the Highways Agency was on route to repair the road at 8pm.

It followed reports that the lane was covered in lots of debris, with one police report stating the surface “had exploded” due to the hot weather.
