A WEEK after it was closed, Upper Orwell Street in Ipswich has reopened today.
A section of the road was cordoned off last Monday after a huge fire tore through St Michael’s Church, destroying the roof and rendering the historic building in danger of collapsing.
Engineers have been working to ensure the remains are safe, erecting scaffolding to act like “a wall” around the structure, an Ipswich Borough Council spokesman said.
He said that work is now complete and the road has reopened to traffic.
