A painting bought for a few pounds at a car boot sale was found to be worth between £400 and £600 at a free valuation event in Sudbury yesterday.

Antique experts Bishop & Millar are holding ‘Antiques Roadshow’ style events across the county to encourage people to get their collectables valued.

The first in the string of events was at the Old Granary and the painting by Mary Dawson Elwell was one of the best finds.

Oliver Miller, managing director at Bishop & Miller, said: “We never know what we are going to come across at our valuation days, and the event in Sudbury on Wednesday did not disappoint. It’s a highly sought-after painting and a really exciting find. It shows the value in coming along to our events as you never what gems you may have at home.”
