A 29-year-old vet who was banned from practising his profession was jailed today for possession of extreme pornography which portrayed sex acts with animals.

Police went to Oliver Lown’s home in Main Road, Kesgrave, on January 31, 2014, after they received information that he could be in possession of videos and images involving bestiality.

Officers seized a number of items including laptops, a hard-drive and DVDs.

These items were all analysed and some were found to contain pornographic materials involving animals.

Lown, who became a vet after studying in Hungary, was interviewed about the material and gave a no comment interview to police. He was later reported for summons on seven counts of possession of extreme pornography.

Lown’s solicitor told the court his client had committed a “possession offence” and not one of distribution and that the quantity in question was relatively low.

He also told the court that he had disclosed his conditional discharge for a previous offence to the professional veterinary body, the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons, and that he had been struck off.

On that occasion, the RCVS, whose findings say he never practised in the UK, said he admitted at a Yorkshire court seven charges of possessing “grossly offensive” material at Kesgrave in September 2011.

Sentencing him today, district judge Celia Dawson gave Lown credit for entering a guilty plea but added that he showed a lack of remorse for committing a similar offence.

She added: “The law classes these images as extreme pornography and I have to sentence them on that basis.”

Lown was sentenced to 24 weeks for each of the offences. They will run at the same time.
