PENGUINS are fascinating children and adults alike in Bury St Edmunds.
The five male Humboldt penguins - which is in the wild can be found along the west coast of South America - are in the market town ahead of the Christmas lights switch-on at 7pm.
The penguins, which enthralled the crowds at the switch-on event last year, will be in Abbeygate Street until 6pm.
Sam Whitbread, who was helping to manage the attraction said penguins had been popularised over the past few years with films like Happy Feet.
“They have really put penguins in the public eye. Penguins are really universally popular I think because they are really caricatures of a human.”
Mr Whitbread said people associated penguins with freezing temperatures, but these penguins are comfortable with UK temperatures.
As well as the penguins, there are reindeer, stalls and rides in the town and many shops will be open until 8pm.
There has been free parking in the town centre from 4pm.
